Professor Adem Sözüer graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Law in 1983. He completed his master with thesis entitled “Criminal Liability for Crimes Involving the Press” at the Social Sciences Institution of Istanbul University in 1986. He then obtained a Ph.D with a dissertation entitled “Attempt to Commit a Crime” from the same Institution in 1993.
In 1994, Professor Adem Sözüer became Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure Law. Subsequently, he was awarded the degree of Associate Professorship for his work concerning “Criminal Law Measures in the Fight against Organized Crime” in 2000. He was appointed with thesis titled “Die Reform das türkischenStrafrechts“ as a criminal law professor to the Istanbul University Faculty of Law in 2008. In 2009, he was elected as the Dean of Faculty of Law of Istanbul University. Professor Sözüer was appointed to the Justice Committee in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey as well as other committees under the Ministry of Justicewherehe has been instrumental in the preparation of the Turkish Criminal Code, the Turkish Criminal Procedure Code, the Law on the Execution of Sentences and Security Measures and Penal Order. Recently Prof. Dr. Sözüer has worked on the code regarding protection of family and prevention of violence against women.
