onursal1Prof. Dr. Yunus Söylet / Rector of Istanbul University

The rector, Professor Dr. Yunus Söylet, was born in Istanbul in 1956. Söylet graduated from Istanbul Erkek Lisesi in 1974, and finished Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1980. Since 1980, he has worked in Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Department of General Surgery, Department of Pediatric Surgery and Pediatric Urology. In 1990, he became an associate professor, and in 1996 he was appointed as professor.

Söylet worked in Germany, England and Sweden for various periods of time, for some of the posts as the visiting professor. He was invited to perform operations in many centers in Germany and Switzerland. He has 160 national publications, papers and posters, 90 international publications, papers and posters of which 117 were quoted. He wrote 24 chapters for a variety of books, 3 in foreign languages and 21 in Turkish. He presided many national and international congresses, workshop organizations and worked as a member as well.

In addition to professional courses, he participated in many courses that enhance information, skills and behaviours such as Hospital Administration Certificate Program; Educational Skills Course; Quality and Accreditation in Health; Correct Communication in Health Organizations; Correct and Impressive Turkish, and Human Relations. At the moment, Söylet is working towards his masters degree in Total Quality Administration.

Söylet was the member of the Faculty Board and the president of Pediatric Urology Department for four years. During 2002-2004, he was the member of the Association of Turkish Pediatric Surgery Proficiency Council; during 2003-2005 he was the president of Association of Turkish Pediatric Surgery. 2004-2006 he was the member of the executive board of İstanbul Chamber of Medical Doctors, during 2004-2008 member of Board of Trustees and presidency of the executive board in Sıcak Yuva Foundation, in 2004-2006 he was the founder president of Association of Rights of Medical Doctors, in 2006-2008 member of High Health Council in Ministry of Health, in 2007-2008 member of YÖK (High Education Council). In 2004 he was given honorary membership by German Pediatric Surgery. The rector, Prof. Dr. Yunus Söylet, speaks German and English. He is married with two children.
